The winding dirt road over the Abano Pass (almost 3000 m) is 3-5 hours of adrenaline, dizzying turns, unguarded cliffs, and breathtaking, heart-stopping views. Omalo is the heart of the region, a village divided into old and new parts. Old Omalo is a cliff with the Keselo fortress, while the new part is a bustling place where you can experience the atmosphere of this secluded world.
Keselo Fortress —built in the 13th century, it stood as a shield against the Mongols and amazes with its impregnability and architectural mastery. Here you'll discover not only mountain views but also hidden secrets of Tusheti's history.
Dartlo is a village rightfully considered one of the most beautiful in the region. It boasts ancient towers and stone chairs where elders sat and discussed important matters. Everything is just like the good old days.
Kvavlo is a mountain village with stunning views. And don't forget to check out the unique Tushino watchtowers, whose roofs resemble Chinese pagodas.
Shenako is a small but very picturesque village, once connected to Omalo by a cable car. Although this never happened, it's still worth a visit.
Girevi (optional) is the final destination of the route, accessible at the group's discretion and weather permitting. It features extremely authentic buildings and numerous pastures with horses. Border guards will meet us here and ask us not to take photos. From here, the hiking trail begins toward the pass and Khevsureti. For us, however, it's simply a vantage point.

We will start our journey from the highest mountain road in Georgia, which will take us to 2962 meters above sea level. Wait, don’t think that it’s scary! On the contrary, this is a chance to see Georgia as no travel agency will show it. Here, at the top, you can take a photo as a keepsake with the spectacular landscapes of the Caucasus, forget about time and simply enjoy the beauty. We carefully selected the route so that you could enjoy everything – from ancient villages to powerful mountain peaks. A selfie against such views is already a masterpiece.

And what's more, we'll travel not only along roads but also along ancient trails leading to Diklo and Dartlo. These villages are rightfully considered the oldest in the Caucasus.
You will love the village of Parsma, where you will not find cafes or modern hotels. Here everything seems to be left in the past - a few houses, a high formidable fortress and a cemetery that reminds of the turbulent history of these places. This place is like a portal to other centuries.

When is the tour to Tusheti (Omalo) open and how long does it last?
The tour to Tusheti operates only during the summer season—roughly from mid-June to the end of October, while the Abano Pass is open. The basic program is 3 days/2 nights, departing from Tbilisi. For a deeper dive, an extended week-long expedition is available.
How difficult is the road to Omalo? Is it possible to drive there in a regular car?
No, a regular car is not suitable for this route. The only road to Omalo is via the Abano Pass (2962 m), a steep mountain serpentine. PVD Club organizes transfers in specially prepared SUVs with experienced drivers who grew up in the area.
What's included in the price of a tour to Tusheti from Tbilisi?
The price includes: transfer Tbilisi -Tushetia-Tbilisi, all transfers within the region, guide services, two-night guesthouse accommodations, breakfasts, dinners, and snacks along the route, trekking poles, camping equipment, and photos from the trip. Insurance and personal equipment rental are available for an additional fee.
What to see in Omalo and the surrounding area in a 3-day tour?
Over three days, you'll see the Keselo fortress above Omalo, visit the ancient tower villages of Dartlo, Parsma, Shenako, and Kvavlo, hike along trekking trails, and, if desired, reach Girevi, right on the border. At the group's request, the program can be extended with a visit to Bochorno, the highest village in Europe (2345 m).
Do I need any special physical fitness for the tour to Tusheti via Omalo?
The Tusheti tour is a combination of a jeep tour and hiking, not a guided tour. Most of the routes are moderate-difficulty hikes along mountain trails. No special fitness level is required, but trekking shoes, poles, and layers are essential. Snow is possible in Tusheti even in summer, so a windproof jacket and raincoat are essential.

The tour to Tusheti is a jeep tour and hiking. It is not a sightseeing tour.
Bring trekking shoes, poles, layers, windproof jacket and raincoat.
If you don't have anything, you can rent it.
We take personal mugs with us, plastic containers and utensils are also possible.
There are no lunches in the program, there are snacks. They consist of snacks: chocolate bars, cookies, bread, cold meats, dried fruits, tea/coffee.
Breakfast and dinner are served by the guesthouse owner and consist of simple village food.
If anyone has any individual food preferences or restrictions, please write a private message to the tour guide.

A sleeping place in the room is allocated taking into account the gender composition of the group.

The remaining 50% is due at least 7 days before the start of the tour.
Refunds of prepayment/payment are made if you cancel the tour at least 15 days in advance.
If you cancel the tour less than 15 days in advance, the prepayment/payment is not refunded or transferred.
Payment in lari at the rate of the National Bank of Georgia on the day of payment.
