Lycian Way Western part
Lycian Way. West
Friends, hello! We invite you to go on a new adventure in Turkey. Tour along the Lycian Way, Western part. Turquoise sea bays, ruins of ancient Lycia, olive groves await us, we will see the Greek island of Rhodes and this is a small part of our adventures.
It’s not for nothing that the Western part is called “Sea Bays”, because the coolness of the sea accompanies us throughout the entire tour, from the first to the last overnight stay. The eastern part will delight you with seascapes on the 5th day of the adventure, after rocky canyons, fragrant Lebanese cedars, climbing to the top of Mount Takhtali and spending the night at the mystical Fires of the Chimera.
Let's go on an exciting week-long journey through sunny Turkey. We've taken care of everything - from equipment to a carefully planned route. Sea bays, cozy campsites on the shore, ancient ruins, breathtaking views and, of course, the Lycian Way - a route loved by travelers from all over the world - await you.

Lycian Way western part description of the region
Also, the Western part will delight those who are looking for traces of ancient states. Preserved Lycian forts, fortresses, walls and parts of buildings will greet travelers throughout the journey.
It's warmer in the west! Yes, we will not spend the night at high altitudes, where warm clothing is required. The soft sea breeze and the slight coolness of the forests will be our companions every night.
Amazing olive groves and stone-paved paths. Walking along them, you can’t help but feel that we are walking through ancient Greece with its rich history and significance. Also one of the unique features of the tour along the Western part of the Lycian Way.
Small transitions between villages, where we can replenish food and water supplies and various goodies for tea)))
The Lycian Way passes through mountains, dense forests and olive groves. You will admire the shores of the Aegean Sea and landscapes that will remain in your memory forever. This route combines nature, history and unique Turkish landscapes, so it is not for nothing that it is considered one of the most picturesque hiking routes.
Why the western part of the Lycian Way?
The western part will seem more comfortable for those who do not like early rises. On some days of our adventure we can afford to go out at 10-11 o'clock, which is a real luxury for week-long hikes!
As in the Tour along the Eastern part of the Lycian Trail, an endless change of biomes and landscapes awaits you, but in the West we are always accompanied by the sea and fabulous sea bays, in turn giving way to mountainous territories and traces of the existence of the ancient state of Lycia.
So which part is the best? The answer is simple - there is none! Each part of the Lycian Way is unique, interesting and worth walking. With us you can go on a Lycian Way Tour, the Western, Eastern and Southern parts. We organize turnkey trips, which include: guided tours, meals, accommodation, transfers. All you have to do is enjoy the hike, away from the bustle of the city and work tasks.
Waiting for you!
Ancient cities and archaeological finds
The Lycian Way route offers not only stunning views, but also a glimpse into the distant past. Here you will find ruins of ancient cities, amphitheaters and tombs that preserve the memory of Lycia, its inhabitants and culture. Just imagine yourself as a spectator in an ancient amphitheater, and history comes alive before your eyes.
Overnight stays by the sea create a special atmosphere. The sound of the waves and the starry sky give a feeling of peace and unity with nature. Campsites are located right on the coast, and for your convenience we provide all the necessary equipment so that you can enjoy the trip without worries.

SCHEDULE OF TOUR ON THE WESTERN LYCIAN TRAIL
DAY 1
We will start our journey with a friendly meeting in Antalya. A little preparation, buying everything necessary in a local store and then going by bus to the city of Fethiye. In the evening we will arrive at the place, check into a cozy guesthouse and rest before the start of our journey.
Distance: 3,5 km
Set: 150 m
DAY 2
After a hearty breakfast, we will head to the resort of Oludeniz. We will have a couple of hours to walk around the city and swim in the turquoise sea. After a short rest at sea, we take a transfer to Mount Babadag, up to an altitude of 1700m. From there our trekking of the second day begins. We will climb to the top of the mountain up to 1960 m. From there, incredible views of the sea bays and neighboring mountains open up. In this part of the Lycian Way the coastline is especially beautiful. We will also see the Greek island of Rhodes, which seems to be within reach.
Then we go down through the pine forest, intoxicating with the smells, to our overnight stop, where we will have a delicious dinner and share our impressions of the past day on the Western part of the Lycian Way.
Distance: 17 km
Set: 1000 m
DAY 3
A day of descents and orange juice))) Our path today is mostly downhill, we will be able to rest from yesterday's climbs. We will finally see traces of ancient Lycia, and if we are lucky, we will see a large number of land turtles on our way. After the descent with a view of the sea, we will make a stop, where we can restore our strength with freshly squeezed orange juice and curious domestic animals. There is very little left))) The goal of our day today is the most beautiful turquoise bay and the village of Kabak, where we will stay in a quiet campsite with hammocks, a large fire and a hot shower. We will comfortably spend another day of the tour along the Lycian Way, admiring the sunset rays on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Kabak is a village for connoisseurs of freedom. The village of Kabak, as if transferred from the hippie 60s, is imbued with the aromas of herbs, incense and a unique Turkish atmosphere. The lower part of the village offers campsites where life is in full swing, and the upper part - a quiet rest and solitude. Not far from here is Paradise Bay with a beach that can be reached either by trail or by boat.
Distance: 13,5 km
Set: 200 m
DAY 4
Having regained our strength, we will continue along the Lycian Way. Climbing higher and higher, an incredible view of mountains, rocks and the sea surface shimmering in the rays of the sun will open in front of us. Coastal scenery will give way to landscapes straight out of Greece: olive groves, stone-paved paths, mountain goats, wheat fields and traces of ancient settlements. Having passed through the villages of Alinka and Yediburinlar, we will set up camp in a panoramic place at an altitude of 900 m at sea level, where after dinner we can relax with evening conversations and hot tea.
Distance: 14,5 km
Set: 900 m

DAY 5
On the 5th day of the tour along the Western part of the Lycian Way, we will continue our journey through picturesque olive plantations, which will gradually be replaced by coniferous forests; a little lower, we again see the endless sea and only in the distance can we see the silhouettes of sea vessels. So we will gradually find ourselves by the sea, where we will stay in a beautiful flowering camp with a swing on the seashore, and curious but timid guinea fowls run around the campsite. A place where you want to stay for a few more days)))
Distance: 15 km
Set: 400 m
DAY 6
Today our path lies to the amazingly large Patara beach. The place is rightfully recognized as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. 12 km of sandy beach line, reminiscent of desert dunes, turning into the sea makes you think about the infinitely eternal. Despite the fame of the beach, there are not many people there, and everyone can find a secluded place for themselves without being distracted by noisy neighbors. By the way, you can be a noisy neighbor without disturbing those who were looking for peace and quiet at all😁
On the way to our camp site, we will pass through the ancient Lycian fort of Pidnai, which served as a defense for the large Lycian city of Xanthos and was mentioned in the writings of Ptolemy back in the 2nd century AD.
Patara - City of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker
The final destination of the route is Patara, the birthplace of St. Nicholas. This is an ancient city where the capital of the Lycian Union was located and where one of the world's earliest parliaments, the Bouleuterion, functioned. Patara was also a seaport, but over time, sand filled the harbor and the city was abandoned. Today, walking along its ancient streets, you can imagine what it was like in its heyday.
Distance: 7 km
Set: 270 m
DAY 7
Final day of the Lycian Way Tour, Western part. After having a delicious breakfast, we can say goodbye to the sea and head towards civilization, where a transfer to sunny Antalya awaits us. If desired and if we have time, we can meet in the evening and share our impressions of the hike.
Within a week, everyone becomes family and seems to have known each other for so long that you want to delay the moment of farewell for a moment longer.

Necessary equipment
- thermal T-shirt/short sleeve T-shirt (2 pcs)
- shirt or thermal jacket with long sleeves (1-2 pcs)
- thin fleece jacket
- thick fleece jacket
- storm membrane jacket (wind and water resistant)
- raincoat (you don't need to take it if you have a good, proven membrane jacket)
- underwear in reasonable quantities
- walking pants (made of lightweight, quick-drying, breathable fabric)
- shorts
- storm pants (wind and water resistant)
- walking socks (2-4 pairs)
- fleece hat (may come in handy when spending the night under the Takhtaly pass).
- trekking shoes or boots (the trails in many areas are very uneven and rocky, so if you are not 100 percent confident in your ankles, it is better to go in specialized trekking shoes that reduce the risk of injury);
- Crocs, flip-flops or other light beach shoes.
-swimwear
towel (preferably light and quick-drying microfiber)
-face mask (formally, in Turkey you have to wear masks even on the street; you definitely won’t be allowed into transport or shops without a mask)
- sunglasses,
- Panama hat (preferably with neck protection)
-backpack (volume 60-70 l will be enough)
-waterproof cover for the backpack (rains are very likely in October-November)
-mat for sleeping (any one will do)
-sleeping bag (in terms of comfort temperature, I would guide you to somewhere around +5: down on the coast it can be hot and you will have to sleep unbuttoned or partially covered from above, but at overnight stays above 1000 meters in November it will already be cool)
-trekking poles
- a headlamp with batteries (each participant should have one)
— seat/kick
- knife, mug, bowl, spoon, plastic bottle for water (can be purchased on site).
- sun cream
— I recommend taking Compeed or another hydrocolloid plaster for wet calluses
- toilet paper
- soap
- toothpaste and toothbrush
- other hygiene supplies as needed
- passport in sealed packaging
- money, bank card in sealed packaging
- printed insurance
- a mobile phone and a charger for it (a power bank for recharging would also be useful)
- a camera and spare batteries for it (or a charger, the possibility of recharging will be every 2-3 days).
- personal first aid kit (sterile bandage, bactericidal adhesive plaster, Nurofen, Ketanov, Lomilan or another antihistamine, activated carbon or smecta, Enterofuril for intestinal infections, Amoxiclav as a general antibiotic, plus “favorite” medications for individual diseases).
Ideally, the weight of personal belongings (including the weight of a backpack and boots) should be within 8-9 kg.
If you gain more than 10 kg, then most likely you have overdone something, and you may have a hard time. Keep in mind that on certain crossings we will have to carry a lot of drinking water with us (1-1,5 liters per person), since sources of fresh water are sometimes absent for 4-5 hours. Plus add to this tents and food (from 2 to 4 kg in different areas). For the latter, there should be enough free space in your backpacks.
So don't add too much. This also applies to snacks. In Turkey, you can buy almost everything in local stores (which will be found every 2-3 days). There is no need to bring nuts/dried fruits/cookies/chocolates with you from home for the entire trip. You can still take it for a couple of days, but nothing more.
It wouldn't hurt to pack all your things in sealed bags or regular plastic bags.
