How to get to Gudauri?

Gudauri is located 120 km from Tbilisi Airport and just 70 km from Vladikavkaz. The road runs along the Georgian Military Highway, one of the most beautiful highways in the Caucasus. In winter, the Gudauri road is constantly cleared of snow, but snow chains or a four-wheel drive are still required from December to March.

From Tbilisi (2–2,5 hours travel time)

  • Minibus from Didube bus station. The most popular and cheapest option is 15 lari (≈5 USD). Departs every hour from 08:00 AM to 18:00 PM. It stops right at the bottom station of the New Gudauri ski lift. Cons: luggage can only be carried on your lap, so it's crowded during rush hour.
  • Taxis via Bolt or Yandex Go. Price: 120–180 lari ($40–$60) per car. You can also book a minivan for up to 6 people, which costs $20 per person. Drivers know where to buy snow chains in case of unexpected snowfall.
  • Private transfer from PVD Club. Included in all tours. Pickup directly from the airport or hotel in Tbilisi at 7:30 AM. Comfortable Mercedes Sprinter or Volkswagen Crafter 4x4. En route, stop for coffee at the Zhinvali Reservoir and a photo shoot at the Friendship of Peoples Arch.
  • Car rental. It's best to rent a four-wheel drive crossover: a Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4, or Volkswagen Tiguan. Prices start at $45 per day through Localrent.com (insurance included). In winter, there are patrols on the highway—the fine for not having chains is 100 lari.

From Batumi (5,5–6 hours)

PVD Club group transfer only – departure at 2:00 AM. Additional charge of $60 for groups of 4–6 people. En route, stop in Kutaisi for breakfast at 5 AM. Blankets, water, and Wi-Fi on the bus are included.

From Vladikavkaz (1 hour 15 minutes)

The fastest way to get to Gudauri.

  • Personal car: travel through the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint (open 24/7, but queues up to 3 hours on weekends).
  • Taxi: 3500–4500 rubles per car to New Gudauri.
  • Group transfer: upon request 24 hours in advance - 6000 rubles per person for a group of 3 or more people.
