The Abano Pass road — already half the adventure

Picture this: an early start from Tbilisi, and in 5–7 hours you’re at nearly 3000 meters. The full story of this legendary route is in the article journey along Georgia’s most scenic (and thrilling) road to Tusheti. Serpentine turns, sheer drops, clouds right under the wheels—one of Europe’s most beautiful and dangerous highways. PVD Club’s experienced drivers know every curve, the best photo stops, and how to pass oncoming traffic safely.

Why Tusheti grabs you forever

The nature here remains untouched: alpine meadows, waterfalls, snow-capped peaks, crystal-clear air. The culture is alive—Tushetians preserve customs blending Orthodox faith with ancient pagan roots. Towers from the 13th–18th centuries, petroglyphs, legends of heroes—history is literally under your feet. And the food: guda cheese in sheepskin, khash, mutton khinkali, homemade wine, and herbal beer. Most importantly, the silence heals the soul.

Hadori Trek

Tusheti Mountains Hike ProgramEarly departure from Tbilisi (around 6:00) → transfer to Pankisi → trek start at 9:30. We dive into one of Georgia’s most atmospheric routes: a dense forest filled with the scent of moss, ferns, and damp earth, followed by open meadows offering breathtaking views of ridges and distant peaks.

Day 1: ~10 km, elevation gain ≈600 m, moderate difficulty (suitable for most people in good physical shape). Midday — a generous break: hot tea from a thermos, delicious sandwiches, homemade khachapuri, nuts, dried fruits, and chocolate. We catch our breath, soak in the silence, and take photos against the endless mountains.

By evening we reach the overnight spot:

  • Option A — romance under the stars: tents pitched on a scenic meadow overlooking the gorge (all gear provided, including warm sleeping bags and mats).
  • Option B — comfort: check-in to an authentic Kistin guesthouse (cozy rooms, hot shower, homemade food, local wine and chacha).

Evening by the campfire (or on the veranda): guides sharing stories, Kistin songs with guitar, and a starry sky so bright it feels like you could reach out and touch it.

Day 2 (if choosing the two-day version): sunrise among the mountains → breakfast → heading out onto alpine meadows covered in flowers, birch groves, rushing mountain rivers, and constant panoramas of the Greater Caucasus Range. Distance: 8–12 km, moderate ascent/descent. Along the way — stunning viewpoints, chances to spot wild horses and flocks of sheep, optional dip in an ice-cold mountain river, and a picnic lunch in nature. By 16:00–18:00 we return to the vehicles → transfer back to Tbilisi (arrival in the evening).

Conclusion: Why It’s Worth Going to Tushetia with PVD Club

Traveling to Tushetia on your own is, of course, possible — but it’s extremely challenging and risky. The Abano Pass demands a powerful 4×4 vehicle and serious driving nerves on mountain serpentines with sheer drops — a regular car simply won’t make it, and beginners often get stuck or run into trouble due to sudden weather changes, rockfalls, or early snow. Without local knowledge, it’s easy to miss the most beautiful hidden trails, lakes, and towers rarely visited by tourists. Mobile signal is almost nonexistent, help is far away, and finding accommodation and food in the mountains turns into a real lottery. With PVD Club, all these complications disappear: experienced drivers who know every meter of Abano and all the bypasses, reliable 4×4 vehicles — this already removes 90% of the stress. Small groups (usually 6–10 people) allow flexibility: you can linger at a stunning spot, adjust the route according to weather or group energy, add extra hikes, or simply sit longer by the hearth.

In the end, it’s not just a tour — it’s a complete reset: tastings of cheese straight from shepherds, evenings by the fire with real mountain stories, treks to Oreti with picnics under blooming rhododendrons, silence and views that change your perspective on life. You pay a fair price (670–990 $ for a full week) and get maximum impressions without stress or hidden costs. Many people return exactly because of this — with the feeling that they truly lived there, not just «saw» it. And they immediately book the next trip, because with PVD Club, Tushetia becomes safe, delicious, soulful, and unforgettable.
