Kazbek Ascent Program
DAY 1 of the Kazbek ascent
We depart from Tbilisi to Kazbegi. The road takes up to 3 hours. Then we head into the mountains! We’ll drive to the Gergeti Monastery. From here, our route begins; on this day, we’ll cover 10 km and stop for the night near the stationary Altihut shelter and spend the night there. For us, this will be the first acclimatization night before the ascent to Kazbek.
DAY 2
In the morning, we head to the Gergeti Glacier moraine, then cross the glacier itself. This section of the glacier is almost always traversed in regular boots, but it depends on the weather; if needed, we’ll put on crampons. After the glacier, there’s a short climb to the Weather Station, where we plan to spend the night in our tent camp before the ascent to Kazbek.
At the Weather Station, we’ll spend a day resting, and according to our plan, we’ll engage in training sessions or take a walk higher up to adapt our bodies to the altitude.

We plan to start moving around 1-2 a.m. Before departure, we’ll have hot tea and a snack.
