Mont Blanc 2026: Trois Monts Traverse, September 9–15
Mont Blanc is the highest peak in Western Europe (4810 m). And if you're reading this, you've likely already thought about climbing it. September is the perfect time: the summer stagnation has already set in, and the crowds of tourists have retreated from the classic route. In 2026, PVD Club has planned an ascent for September 9–15 along the most beautiful route, the Trois Monts (Three Summits). The ascent itinerary

Why Trois Monts and not the classics via Güte
The Trois Monts ("Three Mountains") route is a traverse of three four-thousanders in a single ascent: Mont Blanc du Tacul (4248 m), Mont Maudit (4465 m), and Mont Blanc proper (4810 m). Unlike the classic route via the Güte refuge, this route is less crowded, more adrenaline-fueled, and offers radically different views.
Yes, Trois Monts is technically more challenging (AD- versus PD+). It's not a walk. It requires confident use of crampons and an ice axe. But this route gives that feeling of "I've climbed the Alps," not just "I've climbed a mountain one by one."
Program September 9–15, 2026
Day 1 – September 9 (Wednesday): Arrival in Chamonix. Transfer from Geneva (1–1.5 hours). Accommodation, evening meeting with the guide, gear check. If you need anything, Chamonix has dozens of rental shops with high-quality mountaineering equipment.
Day 2 – September 10: Easy acclimatization. Trekking in the valley or climbing Brevent (2525 m). No rush – the goal is to let your body understand that we're in the mountains. In the evening, a briefing: crampons, ice axe, and roped climbing.
Day 3 – September 11: Acclimatization hike to 3500+ meters. Ascent to the Aiguille du Midi (3842 m), exit to the Vallée Blanche glacier. Altitude check: breathing, heart rate, general well-being. Evening descent to Chamonix.
Day 4 – September 12: Ascent to 4000+ meters. Climb the Aiguille du Tour (3542 m) or Pointes Lachenal. Climb high, sleep low – the gold standard of acclimatization.
Day 5 – September 13: A day of rest and preparation for the summit push. The guide checks the weather forecast. If the forecast is uncertain, we use the backup day.
Day 6 – September 14: Departure to the Cosmique Refuge (3613 m). Cable car to the Aiguille du Midi, descent along the famous ridge of the Arête des Cosmiques. Dinner and early bedtime at the hut. The altitude is already 3613 m – sleep will be difficult, but that's normal.
Day 7 – September 15 (assault day): Rise at 01:00 AM, light breakfast, departure at 02:00 AM. Traverse all three peaks. Final assault on Mont Blanc – summit reach around 09:00 AM. Descent via the Güter refuge or back via the Trois Monts (guide decides). Return to Chamonix by 15:00–16:00 PM.
After the descent - shower, dinner and the feeling that you did it.

Weather on Mont Blanc in September
The first half of September is the best time for experienced climbers. There are almost no people, and the weather is still holding up after the stable August. Daytime temperatures at the summit range from -8 to -15°C, while in Chamonix they range from +20 to +25°C. Nighttime temperatures at the Cosmique refuge (3613 m) range from -2 to -5°C.
Important: After September 20th, good weather windows become less frequent, and fresh snow on the route increases the avalanche danger. Our dates (September 9th–15th) fall within the ideal window.
